🦎 Stefi’s Shorts #8 - find your home

Dear friends,

Another week has passed, and I’m starting to slowly notice the signs of Spring with trees starting to blossom, which I do enjoy.

I’ve been diving into “Building a Second Brain” by Tiago Forte, and what an insightful book on note-taking this is. In a way, I wish I didn’t wait so long to read it but at the same time, it’s a good moment as I’m working through projects and figuring out how to retain more of what I am consuming.

One particular insight that really struck a chord with me is the idea that merely collecting information for the sake of it is missing out on the opportunity to create something and share it with others for mutual learning and growth. When you try to share with others things you’ve learned, you get to sit down with your notes you get a different perspective on the topic. By actually sharing it you’d put your own stamp on it and retain the information better thanks to the process of sharing/ teaching others.

Additionally, the notion that digital notes, while not physical, are actually visual was something I never thought about and it really made me change my perspective. For a while, I thought everything physical was better, but since creating a better system to store notes via Notion compared to my past method with Obsidian, I’ve found a lot of value as I can easily access the information from my phone or laptop easily while with my many agendas this is not so easy to do not to mention the search capabilities.

3 Ideas That Made Me Think This Week

  • What do I need to say no to, so that I have space for what I really want to say yes to? - A question to ask from time to time.
  • Decision making: I saw this video on Instagram and it reminded me that not taking a decision is a decision in itself. Additionally, it’s important to recognize that hindsight bias often leads us to second-guess our choices, when in reality, the alternative might not have been better.
  • If done right the place we keep our notes or so called the second brain moves from primarily being a memory tool to a being thinking tool - idea from “Building a Second Brain” by Tiago Forte.
